Does Posting Comments on Blogs Help your SEO?

Commenting on blogs

This is a big question that a lot of people ask me due to my experience with SEO is; “Will commenting on other blogs build my SEO?”. Well after realizing this is a very important question I decided to further research into this issue if commenting on other blogs will build your SEO or is it really just a waste of your time. The answer is yes and no? Here is what you need to do in order to see the worth of commenting on other blogs.

Is it a “NoFollow” Link?

Well the first think you must check the webpage you are posting on turns your links into “no-follow” links. No-follow links are internally coded which tells major search engines not to follow the link which google and yahoo adhere by other search engines DO NOT. What will google and yahoo do if it is a nofollow link?

Google: Will disregard your link and it will not provide any SEO help and your page will NOT be indexed.

Yahoo: Will disregard your link and it will not provide any SEO help but it will index your page to the yahoo directory which is still a great thing. People can now find your webpage on Yahoo. Horray!!! More Traffic!!

Other Search Engines: Most other search engines don’t care if it is a no-follow link and it will help your SEO. So commenting is a great thing!

Most wordpress scripts have comments as nofollow links. You can download software for mozilla FireFox plugin which will highlight all no follow links on the page so you can tell if your comment will be a no-follow link.

So all in all commenting on other peoples blogs is great but some blogs are worth commenting more than others. It will build your SEO for some search engines which will generate traffic for you. Another benifit of posting comments on other related blogs is readers will click on your link and read your article. They might enjoy your articles and become an active reader. Building an active reading base is a one of the best ways to build your blog. My advice is to comment on blogs with usefull information that will attract readers to visit your blog or website. Building great traffic for you. So if you have a Home Business Blog like I do it is important to become active in the community of blogs to grow your readers and build your SEO.

Truthfully, I’ve found, in testing, that whether it helps you SEO or not, if you’re posting comments on dofollow blogs it encourages people to come and visit your blog, which might be just as good. After all, that’s what encouraged me to come visit this one. lol

Hey Mitch the only problem I have about that is people post porn or malicious websites and having backlinks to those pages will hurt your SEO. So I am still struggling through the transition.

Besides the obvious benefit of getting more backlinks and SEO success, I like to think it’s more important to use blog commenting as a process to meet more people and be active in your community. I moderate all my comments to prevent back linking to bad sites. But I do offer the DoFollow option, because I know what an advantage it was in SEO for my site (getting it to a PR4 in less than a year), and I think people who comment should get that benefit as well.

It is still worth it to comment on NoFollow blogs. Especially the higher traffic blogs. If you make a comment someone else likes, they may visit your site as well.

Yeah, it’s all about the nofollow attribute. It can help you out if the blog you’re posting on doesn’t use it. I’ve seen backlinks in Google to some of my sites this way.

Blog commenting is really effective and I do it daily! I try to comment on do-follow blogs but I also comment on other blogs that do not follow.I believe that if you can make an excellent comment, people will come to your site anyway to learn more about you.

One thing that I often do is deep link back to a relevant post on my blog.It helps with SEO because the search engines can crawl deeper and perhaps an older post gets some PR as well.

I comment on both Follow & NoFollow if I have something to say.

I do know some SEO’s that have tested the NoFollow & proved that Google & other SE’s will follow but will not pass along PR juice. Yahoo shows inbound links to my site that are from NoFollow links, so they must take them into account at some level.

My blog gives me the option on a per comment bases as to if I Do or No follow. It makes it nice incase I think someone is just posting for a link & have not added to the conversation then I will give them NoFollow.
